Emergent Mormon Village?: When Satire Misses the Mark
My friend and colleague Matt Stone recently posted on a blog discovery called Emergent Mormon Village. Matt wonders whether this is a blog that reveals a real emergent Mormon community, or whether it is the product of "a counter-cultist will too much time on his hands and too little sensitivity in his heart." I have a very healthy sense of humor and appreciate satire, even religious satire (Christians frequently take life far too seriously and fail to be able to laught at themselves), but this apparent spoof of both the emerging church in evangelicalism and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints misses the mark. In my opinion, this is an example of ridicule rather than satire.
